Red Bull Faces Criticism After Canadian GP Result Protest

According to Sky Sports, Red Bull’s protest against George Russell’s Canadian GP victory sparked controversy — taking over five and a half hours for FIA to confirm the official result.

Red Bull’s protest centered on claims that Russell drove unstably behind the safety car. However, both arguments were dismissed by the stewards after thorough examination.

Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal, criticized the timing of the protest:

“They launched the protest after two hours, it’s so petty and small. They come up with some weird clauses – what they call clauses.”

Responding to criticism, Red Bull principal Christian Horner defended his team’s decision:

“It’s a team’s right to do so. You have the ability to put it in front of the stewards, and that’s what we chose to do. Absolutely no regrets.”

The situation was complicated by high volume of post-race investigations — stewards had to examine incidents involving several other drivers before handling Red Bull’s protest submitted two hours after the checkered flag.

FIA is currently testing increased number of stewards at six races this season, including Singapore and Brazil — an effort to speed up decision-making process in future.
