Recovered from Meningitis, Aitana Bonmatí Ready to Join Spain National Team

According to Reuters, Aitana Bonmatí has been cleared to leave hospital after receiving treatment for several days due to viral meningitis — welcome news for the Spanish national team ahead of Euro.

The 27-year-old Barcelona striker was forced to miss Spain’s 3-1 victory over Japan in last week’s friendly match. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed that Bonmatí will soon rejoin the team.

Bonmatí — who has scored 30 goals in 78 appearances for the national team — was instrumental in Spain’s success in winning the 2023 World Cup and last season’s Nations League. Her individual achievements are equally impressive with back-to-back FIFA Best Player awards.

Spain will begin their Euro campaign against Portugal, before facing Belgium and Italy in Group B.
