Real Madrid crushed 0-4 by PSG, Xabi Alonso ready for fresh start

Xabi Alonso acknowledged his team’s heavy defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup semifinal — Real Madrid lost with a score of 0-4.

Without suspended defender Dean Huijsen and injured Trent Alexander-Arnold, Madrid’s new coach changed formation from five defenders to four. This change led to Gonzalo García being paired with Kylian Mbappé who had just recovered from illness.

PSG immediately exploited Madrid’s defensive weakness — two quick goals were scored in the first nine minutes of the match.

“We were two goals down and couldn’t find our rhythm. It was a painful defeat, we must admit that we were not up to standard today,” said Alonso.

Madrid made no significant changes at halftime, though the coach made several substitutions in the second half. Alonso emphasized the team will start next season with fresh minds — not ruling out the possibility of new signings.
