Rashid Sidek: Malaysia has great chance to win Thomas Cup 2026

According to New Straits Times, Rashid Sidek — Malaysian badminton legend — sees a great opportunity for his country to reclaim the Thomas Cup 2026 amid transition period of powerhouse nations.

Malaysia’s men’s doubles sector has shown impressive performance since being coached by Herry Iman Pierngadi — this becomes crucial capital for the men’s team championship. In singles, Malaysia still relies on Lee Zii Jia who currently holds world ranking number 9.

“If we’re serious about winning back the Thomas Cup, now is the time. Our men’s team now has much stronger squad depth than previous editions,” said Sidek.

Malaysia’s opportunity is wide open considering several strong nations, including Indonesia, are experiencing generational transition — both in singles and men’s doubles categories.
