Rafael Nadal Receives Royal Honor as Spain’s King Grants Him Noble Title

Jakarta – Spanish tennis icon Rafael Nadal has been awarded a noble title by King Felipe VI, recognizing his legendary career and contributions to national pride and global sportsmanship.

Nadal, 38, has been named the Marqués de Manacor (Marquess of Manacor), a title reflecting his deep roots in the town of Manacor, Mallorca, where his journey began. The honor was made official through a royal decree published in Spain’s government bulletin this week.

The distinction is one of the highest civilian honors a Spaniard can receive and acknowledges Nadal’s status not just as a 22-time Grand Slam champion, but also as a symbol of excellence, humility, and resilience on and off the court.

“It’s a great privilege and something I’ll always treasure,” Nadal said in a statement.

“I accept it with gratitude and responsibility.”

This rare royal recognition aligns Nadal with an elite group of Spanish citizens celebrated for exceptional service and cultural impact. His influence spans well beyond tennis, inspiring generations through his discipline, sportsmanship, and patriotism.

As Nadal nears the twilight of his playing career, the title of Marquess affirms his legacy as one of Spain’s most revered public figures.
