Quinn Critiques Dull Routine of Dota 2 Esports Scene

Gaimin Gladiators’ midlaner Quinn “Quinn” Callahan recently shared his candid thoughts about the current state of the competitive Dota 2 scene.

In a talk show on the CapCasts YouTube channel, Quinn expressed that the frequent studio-based tournaments held lately feel like nothing more than mundane “work routines,” lacking the excitement of events hosted in diverse countries with live audiences.

” Part of the appeal and spectacle of Dota – for players and spectators alike – came from the following thoughts: wow, some random venue; there’s a new crowd there; different teams with different play styles; it’s a home tournament for someone. Remember, there were events in Poland, then Malaysia, then the Philippines, then Romania, then the U.S.

I realize that in many cases it doesn’t make sense from a financial point of view, but I think that watching, playing and working at a tournament feels special when there are people around, not when you just show up for a 9-to-5, get paid and go home – that’s how these studio tournaments feel.”

Quinn’s sentiments appear to resonate with many players in the Dota esports scene, a frustration that has lingered since last season. Major tournaments have increasingly been confined to limited studio spaces, leaving participants drained by the monotonous environment and lack of atmospheric change.
