PSSI Considers Kuwait, Lebanon, And Malaysia For FIFA Matchday

PSSI eyes opponents for September FIFA Matchday

PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir revealed that Kuwait, Lebanon, and Malaysia are the top candidates to face the Indonesian national team in the September 2025 FIFA Matchday window.

Focus remains on World Cup qualifiers

Currently, the Garuda squad is fully focused on their remaining fixtures in Group C of the Third Round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, where they will face China and Japan in June.

Matchday plans depend on qualifying scenario

PSSI has outlined two scenarios for the September FIFA Matchday based on the team’s performance in June:

  • If Indonesia qualifies directly for the 2026 World Cup, they will host two friendly matches.

  • If they advance to the Fourth Round of Qualifiers, PSSI will look for teams with comparable strength to ensure competitive preparation.

“So we have a FIFA Matchday slot in September 2025,” said Erick Thohir, emphasizing the importance of planning ahead.

The Fourth Round of the World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers is scheduled to be held between October and November 2025.
