PSSI Adds More Dutch Coaches — Will It Hurt Local Knowledge Growth?

Simon Tahamata has officially joined PSSI as the Head of Talent Scouting, as announced on Thursday. This move adds to the increasingly Dutch-heavy coaching structure surrounding the Indonesian national football team.

Dutch Contingent Continues to Expand

Head coach Patrick Kluivert, who began his tenure in early 2025, has brought along multiple Dutch assistants to form his core team. These include:

  • Alex Pastoor

  • Denny Landzaat

  • Gerald Vanenburg

This expansion follows PSSI’s earlier appointment of Jordi Cruyff as technical advisor — a change from the initially planned technical director role.

Concerns Over Knowledge Transfer to Local Coaches

While the influx of experienced Dutch personnel brings a wealth of European football expertise, critics and insiders are beginning to question the long-term sustainability and the lack of structured knowledge transfer to Indonesian coaches.

Several local analysts have voiced concerns that an over-reliance on foreign coaching staff might hinder the development of local football minds, particularly if mentorship and education frameworks are not put in place.
