PSSI Addresses Elkan Baggott’s Absence from Indonesia National Team

PSSI Executive Committee member, Arya Sinulingga, has clarified the situation surrounding Elkan Baggott’s absence from the Indonesia national team, following coach Patrick Kluivert’s decision not to include him in the latest squad.

The explanation came in response to growing discussions on social media and news outlets, as reported by Bolasport.com.

Background Of Baggott’s Absence

The Bangkok-born defender last played for the Garuda squad in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers against the Philippines — around 18 months ago.

His omission has sparked speculation. Reports suggest that his absence is related to a conflict with former head coach Shin Tae-yong. Baggott allegedly refused to join the U-23 squad for an Olympic play-off match against Guinea last year.

PSSI’s Official Response

“We understand the situation that is being widely discussed on social media regarding Elkan Baggott,” said Arya Sinulingga.

He did not elaborate further but emphasized that the decision was made after internal evaluation by the current coaching staff.
