Pieter Huistra, head coach of PSS Sleman, has introduced a divided training program during Ramadan, tailoring sessions based on players’ fasting status. This strategic approach ensures both fitness maintenance and player well-being throughout the holy month.

Training sessions at Pakembinangun Field, Sleman, Yogyakarta, are structured to accommodate the squad’s balanced composition—15 players observing the Ramadan fast and 15 others not fasting.

“We have a special program. We have 15 players who are fasting for Ramadan. We have 15 players who are not fasting,” explained Huistra.

The non-fasting players undergo extra training sessions to enhance their physical conditioning, while fasting players follow a modified regimen with adjusted intensity to maintain performance levels without compromising their energy levels.

Despite the differences in workload, Huistra ensures that the entire squad remains on track with the overall training program. By balancing endurance-building exercises with careful workload management, PSS Sleman aims to stay competitive while respecting religious commitments.

With the Liga 1 season in full swing, Huistra’s adaptive strategy reflects a growing trend of clubs accommodating religious observances while maintaining high-performance standards.
