PSIM Yogyakarta appoints experienced Dutch coach for Liga 1

According to Algemeen Dagblad, Jean-Paul van Gastel has been officially appointed as the head coach of PSIM Yogyakarta for the 2025/2026 Liga 1 season.

Laskar Mataram — who recently won Liga 2 last season — demonstrates their serious intent by bringing in an experienced European coach.

Van Gastel has an impressive track record in European football — previously serving as assistant coach at Besiktas and head coach at NAC Breda.

“Jean-Paul van Gastel continues his coaching career in Indonesia. The former Feyenoord player, who as a coach brought NAC back to the top league, has signed a contract with PSIM Yogyakarta, who were promoted to the highest level last season,” writes Algemeen Dagblad.
