PSG crush Atletico Madrid 4-0 in Club World Cup opener

Paris Saint-Germain began their Club World Cup journey with a commanding victory — defeating Atletico Madrid 4-0 in their Group B opener at the Rose Bowl, Pasadena.

Fabian Ruiz and Vitinha put PSG ahead 2-0 in the first half, while substitutes Senny Mayulu and Lee Kang-In added two more goals late in the match after Atletico defender Clement Lenglet received a red card.

“We had the objective of making history this season, but this is a new chapter,” said PSG coach Luis Enrique. “The club is hungry, the fans are hungry, the players and team are hungry — that’s a good feeling.”

The match drew 80,619 spectators to the Rose Bowl — a season record attendance for both clubs.

“In the first half we didn’t play as we should have,” commented Atletico coach Diego Simeone. “They played very well. Even when we won the ball, we couldn’t escape their press.”

Atletico will face Seattle Sounders next, while PSG will meet Brazil’s Botafogo at the Rose Bowl.
