Premier League Transfer Race Approaching £1 Billion Mark Before New Season

According to ESPN, the Premier League title race for 2025-26 has transformed into a spending competition expected to exceed £1 billion before the season begins.

Defending champions Liverpool have been most aggressive with total expenditure of £254.5 million — including a club record for Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen at £100 million and an imminent deal for Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt worth £69 million.

Arsenal under Mikel Arteta have matched the ambition with £180 million in transfers, while Chelsea and Manchester City have combined to spend £260 million strengthening their squads.

Here are Liverpool’s major transfers this season:

  • Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen) – £100 million
  • Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt) – £69 million
  • Milos Kerkez – £40 million
  • Jeremie Frimpong – £29.5 million
  • Giorgi Mamardashvili – £29 million

The top four battle this season is predicted to be the most competitive since the Premier League began — with Liverpool as the team to beat after claiming last season’s title by a 10-point margin over Arsenal.
