Postecoglou Refutes Wenger’s Comments on Champions League Qualification

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has delivered a firm response to Arsene Wenger’s statement questioning the automatic Champions League qualification for Europa League winners.

Spurs currently hold a favorable position in the Europa League semifinals — leading 3-1 on aggregate against Norwegian club Bodo/Glimt after the first leg. Manchester United also stands a strong chance of reaching the final following their 3-0 victory over Athletic Club.

“These are the rules. Why wasn’t this an issue before? Last year, fifth place didn’t get you Champions League entry — this year it does,” said Postecoglou.

“Spurs do crazy things to people. Every time this club is mentioned, they try to diminish it in any way they can. I have great respect for Arsene Wenger as a legend of the game, but this is about Spurs. They love it, you love it. Bring it on,” he added.

The second leg of the semifinal will take place in Norway this Thursday, while Manchester United will host Athletic Club at Old Trafford.
