Postecoglou disappointed with VAR after Tottenham goal disallowed at Stamford Bridge

Postecoglou disappointed with VAR after Tottenham goal disallowed at Stamford Bridge

Ange Postecoglou expressed his frustration with VAR after Tottenham suffered a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The 59-year-old manager acknowledged his mistake in celebrating Pape Matar Sarr’s subsequently disallowed goal — a moment that heightened tensions with supporters who had earlier criticized his substitution decision.

“I’m falling out of love with the game because I love celebrating goals,” said Postecoglou. “Last night I did and I’m paying a massive price for it — I’ll make sure I don’t do it again but I reckon that’s kind of sad.”

The match featured 12 minutes of added time due to lengthy VAR reviews. Postecoglou emphasized his longing for the era of English football that prioritized fast tempo and high energy.

Chelsea also had a goal ruled out when Moises Caicedo’s strike was disallowed due to Levi Colwill being offside.

Tottenham have suffered 16 league defeats this season. The team faces Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League quarter-finals next week.

“I’ll continue to fight until I’m told to stop by someone,” Postecoglou stated in response to pressure on his position. “I still believe we’ve got a massive opportunity for ourselves this year.”

Despite the ongoing struggles in the league, Postecoglou remains committed to his vision for the team. With the Europa League quarter-finals on the horizon, Tottenham will need to regain form quickly and show resilience as they continue their European campaign.
