Pope Francis breathed his last on Monday morning at Domus Sanctae Marthae, Vatican — the guest house that served as his residence during his leadership.

The world Catholic leader, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Buenos Aires, Argentina — became the first Latin American Pope to lead the Vatican since 2013.

Lionel Messi shared his final tribute through an Instagram post:

“A different Pope, warm, close, from Argentina… Rest in peace, Pope Francis. Thank you for making the world a better place. We will miss you.”

The Italian League has made the decision to postpone all Serie A matches scheduled for today — as a mark of respect to the figure known to be fluent in Spanish, Italian, and German.

Pope Francis was widely recognized for his humility, progressive views on social issues, and efforts to reform the Catholic Church. His passing has prompted condolences from world leaders, religious figures, and global communities. Tributes continue to pour in as the Vatican prepares for a state funeral in the coming days.
