Pirelli ready for first MotoGP tire test at Misano Circuit

As MotoGP prepares to switch tire suppliers from Michelin to Pirelli for the 2027 season, development preparations continue. According to Motorsport.com, the first Pirelli tire test will take place at Misano Circuit on September 16 — two days after the San Marino GP.

Five test riders from each manufacturer will use specially modified laboratory motorcycles. The test bikes’ specifications include 1000cc engines without ride-height devices, minimal aerodynamic packages, and power reduction between 40 to 50 horsepower — resembling the 2027 prototype specifications.

The initial testing costs will be fully covered by Pirelli. After lengthy discussions with MotoGP teams, an agreement has been reached regarding funding for more extensive testing planned throughout 2026.

The development program will continue with a series of tests at various circuits during 2026. In this phase, regular MotoGP riders will be involved in perfecting the tire compounds before the official debut in the 2027 season.
