Based on recent race results, early predictions about the 2025 Formula 1 title fight may need reassessment — Oscar Piastri is showing greater potential than his McLaren teammate.

Lando Norris was previously expected to be Max Verstappen‘s main challenger this year — following his impressive performance throughout last season and strong finish at the 2024 Abu Dhabi GP.

At the Melbourne GP earlier this season, Norris managed to secure victory despite an off-track excursion in wet conditions. Meanwhile, Piastri also struggled in the wet weather and finished ninth after sliding onto the grass.

However, Piastri‘s performance in Bahrain was truly remarkable — he achieved a hat-trick with pole position, victory, and fastest lap. The 24-year-old driver made history as McLaren’s first winner at this circuit, finishing almost 16 seconds ahead of George Russell in second place.

  • Piastri has finished in points for 30 consecutive races
  • Bahrain was his 50th F1 race
  • McLaren previously led only 8 laps in Bahrain (2007)

Meanwhile, Norris, who finished third in Bahrain, admitted discomfort with his new car: “I’m surprised to achieve these results because something isn’t clicking right.”
