Philippines Women’s Volleyball Team Suffers First Loss in AVC Nations Cup

The Philippines women’s volleyball team, under the guidance of Jorge Edson Souza De Brito, recorded their first defeat in the 2025 AVC Nations Cup after falling to Iran in the Group B preliminary round at Dong Anh Arena, Hanoi.

Solid start ends with a setback

Before facing Iran, the Philippines had built strong momentum:

  • A dominant 3-0 win over Mongolia

  • A hard-fought 3-1 victory against Indonesia (25-22, 23-25, 13-25, 26-28)

Led by experienced setter Jia De Guzman, the team looked poised to continue their winning form.

Iran remains unbeaten under Do Hee Lee

However, their run came to a halt as Iran, coached by Do Hee Lee, maintained their undefeated record in the tournament. The match highlighted the depth and discipline of the Iranian squad.

Despite the loss, the Philippines still have a strong chance of advancing to the knockout stage, with key fixtures ahead that will determine their final Group B standing.
