Philippe Coutinho completes permanent move to Vasco de Gama from Aston Villa

Aston Villa have announced the permanent transfer of Philippe Coutinho to Brazilian club Vasco de Gama — ending his stint in the Premier League.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder spent his last season on loan at Vasco de Gama — recording 31 appearances and scoring five goals.

Coutinho’s journey at Villa Park began with a loan spell in January 2022, which turned into a four-year permanent deal. However, his performance declined significantly — making only 22 appearances across all competitions in his first full season.

Before joining Vasco de Gama, the 33-year-old midfielder had a loan spell at Qatari club Al-Duhail.

“Everyone at Aston Villa would like to thank Philippe for his service to the club and wish him all the best in his future career,” reads the club’s official statement.
