Phil Foden returns with renewed spirit after football break

Phil Foden reveals he has rediscovered his spirit after taking a break from football — the Manchester City player is determined to prove his abilities to critics in the upcoming season.

Last season’s Premier League Player of the Year decided to skip England national team duties this month — a decision made after struggling with an ankle injury that affected his performance.

“The hunger inside me is back and I want to prove people wrong,” states Foden. “It was a difficult season, I’m not going to lie. It was not the best.”

Back in the team for the Club World Cup opener against Wydad AC, Foden scored his first goal since January in a 2-0 victory at Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia.

Despite acknowledging his fatigue, the 25-year-old remained committed to joining City’s squad for the Club World Cup — he used his rest period during England’s international matches to recover before the U.S. tour.

Regarding his future, Foden’s contract at the Etihad Stadium will expire in two years — however, there have been no discussions about an extension. “I’ve not heard nothing. We’ll see what happens,” he added.
