Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Phil Foden will be included in Manchester City’s squad for the FIFA Club World Cup, despite the midfielder currently recovering from an ankle injury and requiring rest.

The 24-year-old midfielder had requested not to be called up to the England national football team squad for their upcoming matches against Andorra and Senegal next month. Phil Foden, who was named Premier League Player of the Season last year, has seen a dip in form this season.

“In principle, he will go to America,” said Pep Guardiola. “We want to help him—that’s the most important thing. He needs rest, and that will come after this week. I just want him to feel good; I don’t care about his performance on the pitch.”

Meanwhile, uncertainty remains over the availability of James McAtee and Rico Lewis, who are also needed by the England national football team U-21 squad for the European Championship, which begins on June 12—the same day Manchester City departs for Florida.

Pep Guardiola also confirmed that Kyle Walker, currently on loan at AC Milan, will not join the squad for the tournament, despite having one year left on his contract with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
