Peugeot seeks fairness in WEC championship after disappointing Le Mans results

Following an underwhelming performance at Le Mans 24 Hours, Peugeot has voiced concerns about the Balance of Performance that hindered their competitive ability.

The Peugeot 9X8 cars — assigned the lowest power-to-weight ratio for this French classic — could only qualify in 17th and 18th positions. Car #94 finished 11th with a three-lap deficit, while car #93 settled for 16th place.

“Despite not being able to compete as we hoped after the Spa race, we remained focused on the operational side,” stated Jean-Marc Finot, Senior Vice President of Stellantis Motorsport. “Car #94 had an almost perfect race and maximized the available package.”

Despite the challenges, Finot affirmed Peugeot’s commitment to WEC — while indicating the current situation needs improvement. The team hopes to find a fair solution for all parties to ensure their racing program’s sustainability.

Driver Jean-Eric Vergne acknowledged the team’s maximum effort — modifying their strategy with 14-lap longer stints to compensate for performance limitations. While results fell short of expectations, he emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on gathering experience for the future.
