Pep Guardiola told ESPN that he plans to take a break from coaching after his tenure with Manchester City ends — although he’s unsure whether it will lead to full retirement.

The 54-year-old coach has signed a contract extension until 2027, making his stay at Manchester City the longest of his career, surpassing his time at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Over his nine-year spell at City, Guardiola has achieved remarkable success:

  • Six Premier League titles
  • One Champions League trophy
  • Treble winner in 2022-23 season

“After my contract with City ends, I will stop. I’m sure of that. I don’t know if I’ll retire, but I’ll take a break,” Guardiola said.

This season has been especially tough for him. Manchester City trail Liverpool by 21 points in the Premier League and are fighting for a Champions League spot.

However, the club still has a chance to win the FA Cup, with the final against Crystal Palace coming up in two weeks.

“It’s been a huge year of learning. There are so many little details, and I made several wrong decisions. It’s a very personal learning experience,” he added.
