Pep Guardiola insisted that Manchester City’s progress to the FA Cup final is not enough to cover up a disappointing season. City defeated Nottingham Forest 2-0 at Wembley and will face Crystal Palace in next month’s final.

“No!” Guardiola exclaimed when asked if a top-five finish and a trophy would make the season successful. “This season is not good — we are far behind Liverpool in the Premier League.”

“Look at the Champions League. How many games did we win? One or two? We used to be like a machine, but now we are not good. The club must make the right decisions to be better next season.”

On the same day City secured their FA Cup final spot, Liverpool were officially crowned Premier League champions after defeating Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield. Guardiola, who lost the league title he had defended for four consecutive seasons, congratulated Arne Slot’s team.

“On behalf of myself and the whole club, we congratulate Liverpool on their Premier League title. Fully deserved, no doubt about it. A fantastic team. Hopefully next season we can be better and compete until the end.”
