Pearly Tan/Thinaah fail to reach China Open final after losing to host pair

Women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan had to end their China Open 2025 journey — falling in the semifinals to host representatives Jia Yi Fan/Zhang Shu Xian.

Competing at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in Changzhou, the Malaysian duo surrendered with scores of 14-21, 17-21 in a match that lasted 38 minutes.

The match started tight with both pairs exchanging points — but unforced errors from Tan/Thinaah allowed Jia/Zhang to pull away with four consecutive points.

Jia Yi Fan, fresh from winning Olympic gold at Paris 2025 with Cheng Qing Chen — showed her experience and composed play to lead the Chinese pair to an 11-5 advantage at the first interval.

Despite mounting a comeback with five straight points after the break, Tan/Thinaah couldn’t stop the dominance of the more consistent home representatives.
