In the FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 match at Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia — Palmeiras defeated fellow Brazilian club Botafogo 1-0.

Substitute Paulinho became the hero after scoring in the 100th minute with a low shot that penetrated Botafogo’s defense. This victory ended Botafogo’s unbeaten record in the last five meetings between the teams.

Palmeiras supporters dominated the north stand — displaying card choreography, hundreds of green-white flags, and a giant tifo stretching from top to bottom. The chant “Palmeiras!” echoed throughout the match.

  • Estêvão created a chance in the ninth minute
  • Richard Ríos unleashed a powerful shot in the first half
  • Vitor Roque nearly scored with an overhead kick

“A few years ago we’d have paid to play in this competition. And now here we are,” said Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira. “The players had so much energy on the pitch, and I have no words to describe our fans who are absolutely extraordinary.”
