Paul Pogba Joins AS Monaco After Serving Doping Ban

Paul Pogba has been officially unveiled as an AS Monaco player after signing a two-year contract. The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder joins on a free transfer following an 18-month doping ban for using DHEA — a substance that increases testosterone levels.

The 2018 World Cup winner with France expressed his desire to return to the national team — though he acknowledges there is a process to follow.

“Every French player wishes to represent the national team, but there are stages to go through. Right now I’m at stage one — coming back and performing well,” said Pogba.

His Monaco teammate Eric Dier welcomed Pogba’s arrival:

“It’s very exciting for the club and French football in general. I’ve played against Paul many times and know how good he is.”

AS Monaco — who finished third last season — hopes the arrivals of Pogba, Dier, and Ansu Fati will help the team challenge Paris Saint-Germain for the Ligue 1 title.
