Pato O’Ward Claims Dramatic Victory at Iowa Speedway

Pato O’Ward secured a dramatic victory at the Sukup 275 Iowa Speedway — delivering Chevrolet’s first win of the 2025 season.

The 26-year-old Mexican driver seized the lead from Josef Newgarden through brilliant pit stop strategy. O’Ward maintained his position until the finish despite intense pressure from Newgarden.

“This is great. We’ve been waiting for this one all year. My 50th race was also a win here in Iowa — that’s a cool story,” O’Ward stated.

Newgarden — who led 232 of 275 laps — settled for second place just 0.2352 seconds behind. Will Power completed the podium in third, while Scott McLaughlin finished fourth after starting from 27th position.

The race featured several incidents:

  • Colton Herta spun at race start
  • Jacob Abel crashed on lap 75
  • Kyle Kirkwood hit the wall on lap 153
  • Nolan Siegel and Callum Ilott crashed in final stint

Of 27 starting drivers, only 15 finished on the lead lap. The next race takes place tomorrow at 1:00 PM local time on the same circuit.
