Park Joo-bong could become South Korea national team head coach

According to Aiyuke, Park Joo-bong — former Japan national team head coach — has ended his contract with Japan Badminton Association last month.

“Coach Park’s contract with Japan Badminton Association ended last month. Previously, he had expressed his desire to work with Korean players in the final stage of his coaching career,” stated a source from Korean Badminton Association.

“Including Coach Park, there are two candidates who applied for the national team head coach position. We will select the right candidate through interviews this week,” the source added.

Park Joo-bong, now 61 years old, has an impressive track record of achievements — winning Barcelona 1992 Olympics gold, Atlanta 1996 Olympics silver, nine All England titles, and five World Championships titles in doubles events.

After retiring as a player, Park started his coaching career in various countries — leading English mixed doubles to All England 1999 title and guiding two Malaysian men’s doubles pairs to 2001 World Championships semifinals.
