Parivision Dota 2 coach Filipe “Astini” Ribeiro recently sparked a social media debate after claiming that the League of Legends  esports scene is inferior to Dota’s.

Following his team’s victory at ESL One Raleigh 2025 on Monday (14/04), Astini celebrated the moment by posting a brief comment, “Dota > LoL,” on X. Two days later, he reignited the classic rivalry by responding to a comment lamenting the lack of media coverage for Dota esports in South America.

The 34-year-old Brazilian coach argued that Dota esports lacks the spotlight compared to LoL due to Riot Games’ direct involvement as its publisher. He explained that Riot pays Brazilian media outlets to cover their events, leading to rapid growth in LoL-related news. In contrast, Dota and Valve have been known for their community-driven approach, which relies less on corporate funding.

“Neither Valve nor I pay to say good things about the game (Dota). Riot Games pays. And 90% of Brazilian esports news portals suggest this subsidy,” he stated via X.

His remarks were swiftly refuted by Brazil’s die-hard LoL community. However, Astini appeared unfazed by the criticism, calling it a business as usual.

Despite the eternal rivalry between the two MOBA titles, LoL undeniably outperforms Dota in terms of active players and viewership across streaming platforms. Analysts argue that Valve needs a significant move to rival the production quality of LoL tournaments, which currently set the global benchmark for esports events.
