Indonesia U-17 national team defender Mathew Baker has proven his loyalty to the Red and White by turning down a trial offer from Australia’s youth national team.

His decision to stay with Indonesia has paid off, as he is now a key player in the U-17 squad set to compete in the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Hamdan Hamedan, Special Staff to the Minister of Youth and Sports, revealed that a special meeting was held with U-17 head coach Nova Arianto to discuss Baker‘s future.

“At that time, there were several arguments that I and PSSI put forward,” said Hamedan.

Baker’s strong performance during the recent AFC U-17 Asian Cup highlighted his importance in Indonesia’s defensive lineup, playing a vital role in the team’s overall success.
