Panathinaikos vs Rangers: UEFA Champions League Prediction (31.07.2025)

On Wednesday, July 31 at 01:00 WIB, Panathinaikos will host Glasgow Rangers at the Olympic Stadium in Athens for the second leg of the 2025–2026 UEFA Champions League second qualifying round. In the first leg, the Scottish side secured a solid advantage at home with a 2–0 victory.

For the second leg between Panathinaikos and Rangers, bookmakers lean slightly in favor of the home side, but the visitors are seen as more likely to progress. The odds for a Panathinaikos win in regular time are 1.75, a draw is priced at 4.05, and a Rangers win at 4.25. To qualify for the third round, Panathinaikos is given odds of 4.10, while Rangers are at 1.24. The match is expected to have average scoring: over 2.5 goals is at 1.77, and both teams to score is at 1.74.

Panathinaikos

In their first official match of the new season, Rui Vitória’s side already showed their biggest problem: a lack of attacking effectiveness. In last season’s Greek league campaign, the team scored only 31 goals in 26 regular-season matches. In Glasgow, neither Filip Djuricic, Fotis Ioannidis, nor Facundo Pellistri managed to pose a threat. It’s also unclear what form 25-year-old Brazilian forward Tetê is in, as the Portuguese coach only brought him on at the very end of the game.

One might argue that young right-back Georgios Vagiannidis let the team down by picking up a second yellow card in the 58th minute, but even before that, Panathinaikos showed little sign of success.

Rangers

Russell Martin’s squad will kick off their domestic league campaign this weekend, just days after defeating Panathinaikos. On one hand, this offers a chance to develop better chemistry, but on the other, it poses a challenge to the squad’s fitness levels so early in the season.

In the first leg, Rangers didn’t look fully cohesive in terms of team play. Danilo, Kieran Dowell, and Nicolas Raskin often seemed out of sync with teammates. However, for a summer start, the squad looked reasonably solid overall.

Stats and Head-to-Head Record

In the first leg, Rangers had a clear advantage in ball possession (57% to 43%), shots (15 to 7), and shots on target (8 to 4). Interestingly, Panathinaikos had more corner kicks, 6 to 3.

Prediction

Panathinaikos will push hard to overturn the deficit, but this could leave them vulnerable to counterattacks. We suggest betting on Rangers not to lose, with odds of 2.08.
