Oxford United condemns Thai referee’s decision on Paulinho’s dangerous tackle

Oxford United’s official website has launched sharp criticism against referee Wiwat Jumpaoon‘s decision, deemed too lenient in the dangerous tackle incident by Paulinho on Ole Romeny.

The Thai referee — despite consulting with VAR — only issued a yellow card to the Arema FC player who committed the harsh foul.

“Unfortunately, that was his last action in the match due to a harsh tackle from Arema striker, Paulinho,” stated Oxford United’s official website. “It resulted in the player’s ankle being twisted and forced him to leave the field on a stretcher.”

“Remarkably, the tackle was referred to VAR and the referee only gave a yellow card, instead of a red card,” the statement added.

The English club emphasized that Paulinho’s foul should have warranted a red card — considering the severity of the injury sustained by the Indonesian national team striker who had to be stretchered off the field.
