Own Goal Gives Indonesia Early Lead Against Philippines in AFF U-23

Jakarta, July 18, 2025 – Indonesia U-23 took a 1-0 lead against the Philippines U-23 in the 23rd minute following an own goal by Filipino defender Jaime Rosquillo in their Group A clash at the 2025 AFF U-23 Championship.

The goal came from a long throw-in by Robi Darwis into the Philippines’ penalty box. Attempting to clear the ball, Rosquillo’s header instead struck the inside of the crossbar and deflected into his own net.

The incident handed Indonesia an early advantage and boosted their confidence in controlling the match. Robi Darwis’ long throws once again proved to be a valuable attacking weapon for the Garuda Muda squad.

This match plays a key role in determining semifinal qualification, with Indonesia currently topping the group after a dominant win over Brunei in their opening fixture.
