According to Bolasport.com, the second match of the 2024-2025 Korean Volleyball League finals — between Incheon Heungkuk Life Pink Spiders and Daejeon JungKwanJang Red Sparks in Incheon — became heated due to controversy.

The incident occurred during the first set when Jeong Yun-ju of Pink Spiders scored a point to level the score at 24-24 — but Red Sparks immediately requested a challenge for a suspected overnet violation.

The protest was directed at Pink Spiders setter Lee Go-eun — who performed a toss near the net that was considered to violate game rules.

Overnet violations in volleyball have specific rules:

  • Players can only touch the ball in the opponent’s area when blocking.

  • Attacks are allowed if initial contact occurs in their own area.

  • A violation occurs if a player touches the ball in the opponent’s territory outside these provisions.

The controversy has led to the intervention of KOVO—which is expected to review the situation and make a decision on whether the point should be awarded to Red Sparks or upheld for Pink Spiders.

This incident highlights the importance of strict adherence to the rules and the significant role of officiating in determining the outcome of crucial matches in the finals.
