Ons Jabeur Pauses Tennis Career to Focus on Health and Family

Ons Jabeur, one of the most celebrated figures in women’s tennis, has announced an indefinite break from the sport to focus on her physical and emotional well-being.

The 30-year-old Tunisian, a three-time Grand Slam finalist, made history as the first Arab and African woman to reach a major final. She shared the news through a heartfelt statement on social media.

“I have decided to take a break and step away from tennis for some time,” Jabeur wrote.

“This decision has not been easy, but necessary. My body has been suffering with injuries for a long time, and my mental health has been deeply affected by the continuous stress. I have been facing a difficult period with my asthma, and it’s time to pause and take care of myself.”

She added:

“Time to breathe, to heal, and to rediscover the joy of simply living.”

Jabeur also hinted at starting a family with her husband, former fencer Karim Kamoun, saying she wants to:

“focus on personal life and maybe build a new chapter.”

Known for her flair, resilience, and positive spirit, Jabeur’s absence will leave a notable gap on the WTA Tour. While she has not confirmed a return date, support from fans and fellow players has poured in across social media.

For now, Jabeur chooses recovery, reflection, and family—a powerful reminder that health and happiness come first.
