Onic ID, which shocked the Indonesian MLBB community with its superstar signing David “Skylar” Schevenko, has sent a strong message to its competitors by winning its first match in MPL ID Season 16 with a convincing 2-0 victory over Dewa United.

Today’s win proved that their aggressive playstyle hasn’t changed much and has become even more dynamic with the addition of the highly sought gold laner. Although Dewa United showed up late and put up a fight, the skill gap between the two teams was evident.

The first game started relatively slow in the early stage, with both sides avoiding teamfights across lanes. However, around the five-minute mark, Onic bared its fangs and surprised its opponents in the exp lane, led by Mochammad “Lutpii” Lutfi.

With little resistance, Onic took just 11 minutes and 35 seconds to shred Dewa United in their base, ending the game with an 11–0 clean sweep—a record-breaking opening match victory in recent MPL ID history.

The early phase of the second game was more balanced. Dewa United managed to outperform the Yellow Porcupine army in the first five minutes and secured crucial objectives, but the tides turned thanks to the effective plays of the duo Lutpii and Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol. Mid laner Gilang “Sanz” further extended the lead and pressured Dewa United into the mid game.

Entering late game, Dewa United approached more cautiously, guarding their crucial spots from Onic ID’s players. However, Skylar, who had a relatively quiet start, amped up the pressure and created advantages for his team. The gunman helped Onic ID close the second game impressively around the 20-minute mark, ending with an 18–8 victory for them.

Is Savero needed?

Skylar’s solid performance probably has left Onic ID fans questioning the role of Clayton “Savero” Adrielo, who is now relegated to the bench. Many are now unsure whether he can reclaim his spot if Skylar maintains this level of consistency throughout the Regular Season.

This is somewhat surprising, given that Savero was one of the players with an impressive KDA in Season 15. Analysts even considered him one of the key players—alongside Sanz—in Onic ID’s dramatic triumph against RRQ at S15 grand finale, preventing their opponents from securing a comeback after being down 2–3.

Additionally, Skylar is expected to be a mainstay this season, especially since head coach Adi “Adi” Asyauri has returned to his former role after serving as an analyst last season. The two are widely known for their strong chemistry during their time with RRQ.

That said, given Onic Id’s track record of maintaining consistency, it’s unlikely Savero will be sidelined for long. His flexibility could still serve as a secret weapon when the team needs a Plan B.
