Nova Widianto pushes Malaysian mixed doubles to claim first title at Japan Open

According to New Straits Times, Malaysian mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto highlights the importance of securing their first title this year ahead of Japan Open 2025.

Two main Malaysian pairs — Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei and Hoo Pang Ron/Cheng Su Yin — are Nova’s focus to demonstrate their progress in the upcoming tournament.

Mixed doubles remains the only doubles sector in BAM’s national training center without a title in 2025 — unlike men’s doubles who succeeded through Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik and Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun, and women’s doubles Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan who won Thailand Open.

“Mixed doubles is the only doubles event still without a title this year,” states Nova who places special hope on Chen/Toh to rediscover their chemistry after their previous separation.
