Nicolas Jackson faces severe sanctions after red card in Club World Cup

Nicolas Jackson received a straight red card in Chelsea’s 1-3 loss to Flamengo in Group D of the 2025 Club World Cup — an incident that threatens his career at the London club.

The controversial event occurred just four minutes after the Senegal national team striker replaced Liam Delap in the 64th minute — he made a dangerous tackle on Ayrton Lucas on the right side of the field.

Replay footage showed Jackson’s tackle hitting Lucas’s shin before stepping on the Flamengo player’s foot — the referee immediately showed the red card without hesitation.

This is Jackson’s second red card in a short period after previously being sent off in a match against Newcastle United in last season’s Premier League.

“I want to express my apologies to everyone at Chelsea,” said Jackson after the match.
