Ng Tze Yong faces tough challenge in knee injury recovery

Sports psychologist Ahmad Fadzlee Ahmad Idriss highlights the importance of mental preparation for Ng Tze Yong — Malaysia’s men’s singles badminton player who will undergo knee surgery.

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury Ng sustained during Malaysia Masters requires surgical intervention. Post-surgery rehabilitation becomes a crucial phase to ensure optimal recovery.

“Rehabilitation is a process that has been taken lightly by many Malaysian athletes. However, without proper effort during rehabilitation, you will never recover fully both physically and mentally,” states Fadzlee.

“I have experienced an ACL injury before, so I know firsthand what it feels like. It’s not easy to do the required exercises when you’re still injured, but that’s what will make you stronger.”

Fadzlee emphasizes that Ng must carefully follow medical team guidance — including instructions from doctors and physiotherapists to avoid risk of recurring injury.
