New Thailand U-23 coach ready to step down if fails to win SEA Games gold

New Thailand U-23 coach ready to step down if fails to win SEA Games gold

Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul — the new Thailand U-23 national team coach — revealed his team’s preparation ahead of the 2025 ASEAN Cup U-23 in Indonesia.

The tournament scheduled for July 15-29, 2025 places Thailand in the same group with Myanmar and Timor Leste — a challenging situation given the team’s less than ideal preparation.

The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) just made a coaching change after Takayuki Nishigaya was dismissed following five consecutive losses in friendly matches.

“I am ready to take full responsibility. If I cannot bring home the gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games on home soil, I will not remain in this position,” stated the coach commonly known as “Coach Wang.”
