NASCAR legend Larry McClure passes away in Virginia

Larry McClure, a legendary NASCAR team owner, passed away on Wednesday at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia — as confirmed by his family.

As co-owner of Morgan-McClure Motorsports alongside Tim Morgan and his brother Jerry McClure, their team operated in NASCAR from 1983 to 2012 — securing 14 Cup Series victories including three Daytona 500 titles.

The iconic No. 4 car with Kodak sponsorship claimed their first Daytona 500 victory with Ernie Irvan in 1991, followed by two consecutive wins by Sterling Marlin in 1994 and 1995.

The team’s final victory came from Bobby Hamilton in 1998 at Martinsville — a commanding performance leading 378 of 500 laps after starting from pole position.

Larry’s nephew, Eric McClure who competed in nearly 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series races, had previously passed away a few years ago at age 42.
