NASCAR Drama: Former Legacy Motor Club Consultant Involved in Charter Dispute

The NASCAR charter dispute intensifies — Legacy Motor Club has filed a new lawsuit against T.J. Puchyr, their former independent contractor who is now attempting to purchase Rick Ware Racing (RWR).

In recent legal filings, it was revealed that T.J. Puchyr previously worked for Legacy through his consulting firm, Rucus — he had access to confidential team business information and even helped broker the charter agreement with RWR.

“Legacy trusted Puchyr to act with integrity and refrain from actions that would undermine Legacy’s operations, reputation, or competitive standing,” states the court document.

The team accuses Puchyr of betraying their trust by attempting to derail the 2026 charter agreement between Legacy and RWR. Furthermore, court documents reveal that Puchyr made personal attacks against Jimmie Johnson — Legacy’s co-owner and seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion.

“He doesn’t think Johnson has all the facts, doesn’t understand the deal we had and tried to humiliate Rick publicly,” quotes Puchyr’s statement in the documents.

The situation is further complicated after Judge Daniel A. Kuehnert previously warned RWR about “serious ramifications” if they attempted to sell the charter during ongoing legal proceedings.
