NASCAR changes rules to avoid legal issues with racing teams

NASCAR has updated its rulebook following the court’s denial of a temporary restraining order (TRO) request from 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports — a decision related to their charter rights revocation.

While rejecting the TRO, the judge indicated the possibility of issuing an order if teams risk missing races due to field size limitations. NASCAR responded by updating regulations: “NASCAR, at its sole discretion, may limit race entries to 40. Open teams will be determined based on team owner points standings.”

Teams without charters earn only about one-third of their normal revenue each race weekend. Previously, both teams benefited from a preliminary injunction last December allowing them to race as chartered teams — however, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals has revoked that ruling.

“All will be exposed there,” said Denny Hamlin, co-owner of 23XI, commenting on the upcoming trial scheduled for December 1st.
