Nagatomo Hopes for Chance to Face Indonesia in Osaka

According to Bolasport.com, Yuto Nagatomo, has expressed his hope of featuring in Japan’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualification match against Indonesia, set to take place at Suita City Football Stadium in Osaka.

The 37-year-old FC Tokyo full-back — the most senior player in the Japan national team setup — has yet to receive any playing time during this qualification cycle under head coach Hajime Moriyasu.

Last appearance came in 2022 World Cup

Nagatomo’s last match for Samurai Blue was in the Round of 16 at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where Japan was eliminated by Croatia via penalty shootout.

During Japan’s previous qualifier against Indonesia in Jakarta, the former Inter Milan star was not included in the 23-man squad.

The match in Osaka could mark a potential return for the experienced defender — one he personally hopes for, especially on home soil.
