Muhammad Ferarri and Dony Tri Pamungkas compete for U-23 national team captaincy

With ASEAN Cup U-23 2025 starting in three weeks — Indonesia U-23 national team coach Gerald Vanenburg is weighing his options for team captain.

Muhammad Ferarri and Dony Tri Pamungkas have emerged as primary candidates for the captain position — both having previous experience leading Indonesia’s U-20 national team.

Two years ago in the same tournament, Indonesia’s U-23 team led by Alfeandra Dewangga advanced to the final match. At that time, the Young Garuda squad played without Rizky Ridho who wasn’t released by his club.

Muhammad Ferarri, now 22 years old — stands as one of the squad’s senior players following his experience captaining the U-20 team in 2023 Asian Cup and the senior national team in last year’s ASEAN Cup.
