MPL SG Sparks Concern with Sharp Drop in Prize Pool

The schedule for the upcoming MPL Singapore Season 9 has been officially unveiled, alongside several previously announced updates. However, initial reception appears lukewarm due to a sharp reduction in the prize pool compared to previous iterations.

According to official information, this season’s prize pool has been slashed to SGD 40,000 from the previous SGD 100,000. This decision has drawn criticism from Singapore’s MLBB community, who argue that the cut contradicts organizers’ goals of aiming to elevate the quality of MPL SG competitions.

On a positive note, MPL SG is introducing a Challenger System starting this season. A total of 64 community teams will compete for a chance to advance and face off against top-tier professional squads in later stages.

Moonton’s decision to reduce Singapore’s prize pool seems tame compared to the MPL Latin America, which offers a modest USD 28,000 this season. Meanwhile, North America’s league has seen the steepest decline, with its prize pool entirely removed and replaced by an open bracket tournament system.

Despite these changes, Moonton has promised exciting updates for Singapore’s MLBB community this season. Initiatives include an Attendance Passport program for in-game rewards and opportunities to spotlight rising stars and Key Opinion Leaders during the competition.

Fans will also get to watch their favorite teams live at venues like Bukit Panjang Plaza, Westgate, and Lot One. This tour-style format aims to boost accessibility for viewers and boost excitement among supporters.
