MotoGP Tests New Radio Communication Device at Aragon Circuit

During a testing session at Aragon Circuit, MotoGP conducted trials of radio communication devices to enhance safety communication with riders.

Lorenzo Savadori, Brad Binder, Johann Zarco, and Alex Marquez — participated in testing this new technology. The device utilizes a bone conduction system with larger communication pads compared to previous versions.

“For the first time race direction spoke with me, I listened well in the pit box,” stated Savadori.

“When using it on the bike, I could hear although not super clear — but every time we use it, the quality improves.”

While using bone conduction, the device doesn’t cause discomfort. The main challenge appears at high speeds — helmet movement can affect the communication pad position impacting sound clarity.

Alex Marquez, testing it for the first time, offered a different perspective:

“It’s not easy to understand many points or hear very clearly. When trying to push with 1 minute 46 second lap times, I couldn’t hear messages because of intense focus,” he explained.

This communication device is planned to become mandatory for safety aspects starting next year — making this testing an important step in developing communication technology in MotoGP.
