Monterrey Disappointed with Referee Decisions in Loss Against Dortmund

Coach Domenec Torrent expressed his disappointment with referee Facundo Tello’s decisions in Monterrey’s 2-1 loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Club World Cup round of 16.

Torrent highlighted two controversial incidents — Julian Ryerson’s foul on Gerardo Arteaga before Dortmund’s second goal and an alleged penalty on Jesus ‘Tecatito’ Corona that wasn’t reviewed by VAR.

“We are Rayados, we want to win. We are not satisfied with this result. We played strong, especially in the second half, to turn the game around and tie,” stated Torrent.

Defender Jorge Rodriguez supported his coach’s view on the penalty incident.

“Honestly, during the game I thought it was a penalty and watching it again, it was very clear. At least there should have been a review, same with their second goal,” said Rodriguez.

Despite disappointment with referee decisions, Torrent acknowledged his team’s commendable performance against the Bundesliga club. The defeat marks the end of CONCACAF participation in the 2025 Club World Cup, with Monterrey now focusing on Liga MX preparations.
